Put back what people remove
By default a rule respects people. If someone takes a group the rule added off a page, the rule records it and leaves the page alone.
Turn on "Put back entries a person removes" and the rule puts the group back instead. That is the difference between applying a restriction once and keeping it in place.
Turning it on
Open the rule and tick "Put back entries a person removes" under Options. It works on rules that are On. A Watching rule records that it would put the entry back and changes nothing.
Ticking it on a rule that is On puts the rule back to Watching, like any change to a rule. Turn it on again when the preview looks right.
When it happens
Changing a page's restrictions sends the app an event, so the rule checks that page again, usually within seconds, and puts the entry back. If an event is missed, the daily catch-up finds it.
What it puts back
- Only entries this rule added. It doesn't put back anything a person set.
- On an Add rule, it puts its groups back and leaves anything the person added.
- On a "Children follow the parent" or "Keep these out of editing" rule, if the person also set a restriction of their own on that page, the page counts as set by hand and is left alone. Turn on "Override restrictions set by people" too if the rule should win there.
- Turned on later, it also puts back entries people removed while it was off.
What it can't do
- If someone takes the app off a page's view restriction, the app can no longer see that page, so it can't put anything back there. See Pages the app can't see.
- A paused rule puts nothing back, and neither does any rule while "Pause all rules" is on.
- Undoing a rule's run pauses that rule, so it won't put back what the undo took off.
