FAQ
Does it read my pages?
No. It reads and changes restrictions. It doesn't read page content, and it can't edit it.
How fast do new pages follow a rule?
Within seconds of the page being created, moved, copied or restored. A daily catch-up, and a full check every week, find anything an event missed.
If someone removes a restriction the rule added, does it come back?
Only if you ask it to. By default the rule respects the change. Turn on "Put back entries a person removes" for that rule and it puts the entry back, usually within seconds. See Put back what people remove.
Can I stop everything at once?
Yes. "Pause all rules" on the Rules tab stops every rule and bulk change, across the site, until you turn it off. Undo still runs.
Is there a limit?
One rule covers up to 50,000 restriction entries, counted as pages x the groups and people the rule names x the operations it covers - so a rule that sets both view and edit counts each page twice. Use groups for big trees.
What about folders, whiteboards and databases?
They follow rules like pages do.
Who can use it?
Confluence admins. A Confluence admin can also let space admins use it in their own spaces. See Space admins.
