Getting started
1. Open Restriction Rules
Go to Confluence settings, then Restriction Rules. Confluence admins can use it. A Confluence admin can also let space admins use it in their own spaces: see Space admins.
2. Run a quick audit
The quick audit looks at your five largest spaces and lists pages that need attention: hidden pages anyone can edit, open pages under edit-restricted parents, and restrictions naming people or groups who are gone. Most come with a suggested fix.
3. Make a rule and let it watch
Pick who, what access, where, and how (see Rules and modes). The rule starts by watching: for 7 days it records what it would change and changes nothing. You can look at that list any time.
4. Turn it on
After the watch period the app asks "Turn it on?" with the number of pages it would have changed. Read the preview, then turn it on. From then on new and moved pages follow the rule within seconds.
5. Decide whether it should hold
By default a rule respects people: if someone takes the rule's group off a page, the rule leaves it off. If the restriction must stay, turn on "Put back entries a person removes" for that rule. See Put back what people remove.
